– CLIENT

FAQ's

What does the pink door logo mean?

Our logo p.ink door describes the idea of how our clients can use the “ink” of a new life to write the next chapter of their “personal” story. And by doing so, opening up doors leading to new life perspectives.

What is the legal basis of your work?

The characteristics of the offense of forced prostitution are defined in Section 232a StGB. The promotion of prostitution among people under the age of 18 is also punishable under Section 180a StGb (Section 180a Exploitation of Prostitutes, StGB).
Since the introduction of the Prostitution Act in 2002, 'prostitution' is no longer considered immoral in Germany. The Prostitutes Protection Act, which came into force on July 1, 2017, has further specified the rights of prostitutes, including the obligation to register commercial prostitution see BMFSFJ 2023)

What is your attitude towards social work?

In accordance with professional social work, we focus on person-centred and life-world-oriented work and understand each person as an individual expert of their history and situation.

Do you actively do political work?

No.
Our focus is fighting sexual exploitation through our social work and other services.

How do women find their way to Pink Door?

We primarily establish contact through our website, social media platforms, Online Streetwork or recommendations from acquaintances and friends.
Another approach is through referrals from our cooperation with various organizations in Berlin and throughout Germany (street work, other advice or referral centers, clinics and psychiatric institutions, Germany-wide shelter network).
We set up individual meetings with potential clients, regardless of location.

Do you work exclusively with women and their children from forced prostitution and prostitution?

Currently, yes.

If necessary, we advise their relatives, friends, and acquaintances. However, we cooperate and support other organizations that work with those affected by labor and sexual exploitation, including children, men, and transgender people.

Do you focus exclusively on a women's exit from forced prostitution as well as professional reorientation?

No.

The exit from forced prostitution or professional re-orientation from prostitution can be part of our counseling. We respect the needs and wishes of the client and support them individually.

Are there current statistics on forced prostitution and prostitution?

Unfortunately there are currently limited available statistics.

This shows the urgent need for current research on individuals in prostitution.

I've noticed that your various PR materials don't show faces in photos or give the office address? What are your reasons for doing this?

We have a comprehensive anonymity policy that includes employees and clients. The reasons for this policy are as follows:

For clients:
1) We want to guarantee our clients the highest possible security and confidentiality.
2) Clients' stories are not our stories and should not be shared for purposes such as fundraising, etc.
3) We protect the identity of clients and respect their privacy. They decide with whom their stories are shared.
4) Some of those affected are still at risk. We take the risk assessment of every woman very seriously. Safe places are very important for acutely affected people.

For employees:
1) The safety of our employees is our top priority.
2) We want to protect the identity of individual employees.
3) We do not put individual employees above others.

What is Pink Door's accountability?

Pink Door has several levels of accountability:
Verification of the non-profit status by the government tax office takes place every 3 years, as well comprehensive annual internal audits, with financial and factual reports distributed to the donors (annually), the board of directors (monthly), and the
voting members (annually).

How is Pink Door funded?

We are funded through grants and private donations.

How do you define success in social work?

Success is individual and subjective, and therefore difficult to measure. Successes are always to be attributed to the individual client's difficult inner self-work, never to our social workers or members of our staff .

How can I get involved?

Be informed! Research literature, read survivor stories and reliable, scientific sources.

Get involved! Support initiatives and organisations in your area or get involved on the political level.

Don't turn a blind eye to sexual violence and structural sexism.

Speak your mind! No means no!

Do you offer seminars or are you willing to present Pink Door at events?

Yes!

If you wish to host a seminar on the topic of sexual exploitation or the work of Pink Door, please contact us at mail@pinkdoorberlin.org
